I'm very new to the practice of body modification. I've always been fascinated by it, but I've always been afraid of needles.

My current CBR in my left lobe. | |
My ears were pierced when I was very young as is the case when you are female and born in the Philippines (you pop out, they slap you, they pierce your ears). Being terrified of needles when I was in high school, it would have been impossible for me to go out and try getting my ears pierced any further. When I got to college, I had learned to be far more calmed with needles. Once I started a real job in NYC, I had the monetary ability to indulge in things that I've always wanted to. My story of my first piercing (left ear lobe) describes the influences that lead up to getting my left ear double pierced.
About three weeks later, I took Ella and Kim (my cousin) to a WebGrrls meeting and before the meeting, I got my second piercing (another left ear lobe).
Here is an image of my left ear in its current state. The lowest piercing (containing the cobalt niobium ring with the white tiger-eye ball) is subject to change, but the two silver rings are my July piercings. I plan on continuing my piercings, either continuing up my ear, or piercing either my tragus (the green-marked area), upper outer rim, or my helix (the red-marked area). I think the helix is probably a bad idea since I have glasses and I'm constantly pulling them off (or getting them pulled off). The tragus is probably a painful experience and will block cleaning out me ear, although it is the most tempting to pierce. The outer rim would be a safe experimentation into cartilage, so I'll probably pierce that before my tragus.
I'd love to pierce some of the more exotic areas of my ear like the diath (the yellow-marked area), the rook (the orange-marked area), or the anti-tragus (the light-blue area)... but there is no rush. Orbitals look wonderful, but I don't think I'm prepared for something like that. Other options I have are my eyebrow (which I don't think I'll get away with since I'm working now and have clients), my navel (which I won't do anytime soon while I'm still chunky), or my handwebbing (which I fear would migrate out, so it is a generally bad idea).
I've promised Mike that I wouldn't pierce anything until October. But come October, I'm definitely getting something pierced! Perhaps I'll get a small tattoo meanwhile. However, I still have to choose WHAT I will get tattooed.
Other ear projects that I'm trying is stretching my earlobe. I currently have this 16 gauge curved barbell in my right earlobe in the piercing that I've had since I was very young. I want to eventually stretch it to a 14 gauge and wear interesting jewelry from it. I see things like a 2 gauge piercing and think that they are very cool, although I would be terrified of having an unnaturally large hole in my ear. I would no longer be able to ear typical jewelry in that hole. Nope! Not going to do it! I suppose I'll have to simply admire it from afar.
