My First Time... In late June, I started getting fascinated with getting my left ear double pierced because of my sister constantly talking about possibly of getting herself pierced (eyebrow). I started surfing the web for places to get my ear pierced and discovered the wonderful repository of information, Body Modification Ezine. There I read an article regarding an ear piercing at the Gauntlet that talked about how sanitary the location was. I was intrigued. I discovered that the Gauntlet had their own website and I went to it. I wasn't particularly impressed with their site, but the temptation was so great that I decided to call and make an appointment. I have this thing with obsession: whenever I start thinking about something and obsessing about it, I just can't stop thinking of it. It becomes unhealthy. So, I just have to go out and Do It. I had to do the same thing the first time I bleached my hair. So, I made an appointment for later in the day... That day, I left work early and took the bus down to 33rd street where I picked up Mike's birthday present (the board games Caesar and Cleopatra and the city expansion for Settlers of Catan). From there I took a bus to the Gauntlet... The Gauntlet was a wonderful establishment. The place was extremely sanitary and my piercer, Jon, was very helpful in keeping me calm and collected. He talked to me, explaining the entire procedure. I picked out a simple ring with an attached ball since I wasn't used to CBRs then (I still have problems with really small balls). The first time I had gone, I thought that the needle had the shape of the earring, since it was extremely prominent on the tray that Jon kept the needle and clamp, so I kept telling everyone that the needle that they pierced me ear was curved. Jon relaxed me by talking me through the operation and giving me advice on ear care. He cleaned my ear. Oo, did that cold antiseptic make me very nervous. He marked my ear where he would pierce me and told me to take a look in the mirror. It looked perfect! I sat on what looked like an upright doctor's chair. He told me that I would take a deep breath in and when I breathed out, he would pierce me. He told me to take a breath in... I was expecting something far more painful than what it actually was. It felt like a pinch and that was it. The next thing I knew, he was telling me that he was putting in the jewelry. Another smaller pinch there. Then it was all done. He then took a paper towel and held it against my ear to stop the bleeding. That was far more painful than the piercing, but it was pretty minor. He then let me look at it in a mirror. It was beautiful! I was very happy. It took Mike and my family about two days before they noticed. |
