Lightning Never Hits Twice

After my sister discovered that I had pierced my ear, she seemed to be really interested in my experience. I was also harboring ideas to get my ears pierced again since the previous experience seemed to be "nothing really". I kept suggesting to Ella and Kim that we should go do a "hang out in NYC" day where I leave work early, I get my ear pierced again, and then we go to the Webgrrls meeting. It took a while but I had them finally convinced. I scheduled my appointment again at the Gauntlet and left work early that day.

Since they came to my office late, we decided to take a cab ride down to the Gauntlet (instead of the bus system). We were a bit early, so opted to look around the shops in the area. This did nothing to relax me, unfortunately. We did get to see a dress that Whoopi Goldberg wore to something. I also got to see several capes, that I appropriately drooled over. I'd love to get a cape.

When I stopped in front of the store and rang the buzzer to be let in, Ella and Kim didn't seem to be at all impressed. I felt the same way too the first time I went there, but by the time I got to the clean and airy reception area, I think they realized that this wasn't as downscale as they expected. The reception area has photographs of sausages pierced in various ways: I think they got a kick out of that.

Jon was my piercer again (I requested him since he seemed to be such a nice guy) and I chose the same type of jewelry as I had before (same diameter as well). We then proceded to look at all the really pretty jewelry that they had. Exotic-style jewelry really interests me. Then Jon called me in to get pierced. I asked if my sister and cousin could watch and he said sure.

He spent a long time looking at my ear. He asked me if I wanted the piercing to be spaced the same distance as my second piercing was from my first. I nodded. He then brought out the calipers (I saw that Ella and Kim were totally impressed) and started measuring things. Jon then asked me if I wanted my earring to dangle straight up and down or if I wanted it to be tilted sideways. The diameter of the earring was too small to have it hang down loosely. I chose to have it hang down and he got an earring of larger size for me. Els and Kim were impressed by how often he changed his gloves and cleaned the area up. Cleanliness is forefront at the Gauntlet.

While he was cleaning my ear, he noticed that my first earring was bleeding a little and asked me if it was bleeding often. I had to say yes, that it was bleeding a little but it didn't bother me... should it? Well, he said it was unusual, but he didn't think it was because of allergy to the metal or anything like that. Perhaps I'm just a slow healer or handling it roughly at night while I'm sleeping. He advised me to dunk it into hot salty water and that would speed up the healing process.

Once he got my new jewelry, he prepared my ear (clamping it) for piercing but he opted to do it without the clamp than with it. He told me to breathe in and then breathe out and he would do it when I breathed out. I did so and... this hurt a bit more than the last one but, it was pretty effortless. Ella and Kim were completely freaked out my the entire experience, I think. Ella commented that it looked really gross and would much rather have the gun experience than the needle. Kim wants the needle experience. She couldn't stop saying how this was the most upscale piercing place that she's been into and how impressed she was. More converts!
