Causes

The Eleventh Commandment

Eleventh Commandment
I believe in supporting many different causes on the web. One of them is the belief in supporting copyrighted work on the web, especially artwork. It's so easy to take another person's work and claim it as your own. That's so wrong in my mind. I believe in distributing information on the web, but at the same time I believe that credit should be given where it is due and all works of art should be respected. So, I follow the Eleventh Commandment. All my artwork is original and if I use images taken from other sites, I only use them under their policies of fair use and always display the appropriate copyright. Do you?

Web Prestige

Web Prestige
While Eleventh Commandment talks about the rights of the artist, Web Prestige talks about the problems of bandwidth stealing. This is the act of grabbing an image off of someone's server and utilizing their bandwidth to have the image displayed on another's page. I consider this a gross violation, with very few exceptions (like Mandelbrot Set's Hall of Mirrors which is something that I participate in willingly). I created this graphic to demonstrate my support of the principles of Web Prestige. Feel free to grab the image and use it on your own site (email me to let me know!).

Grey Day 1999

Grey Day
I supported Grey Day in 1998 and I intend to do so again in 1999. [woolgathering] is listed as a supporter. The cause tries to "eliminate online plagiarism, the unlicensed use of copyrighted works, and bandwidth robbery." By becoming aware of the issue, hopefully we can foster creativity on the web while maintaining the free flow of information and imagery.
